Is God Calling You to Serve?
Do you have a desire to serve God and your fellow parishioners at Santa Maria Parish? Why not consider becoming a lector, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, a catechist, or altar server? If you feel called to serve, and are interested in any of these ministries, please speak to Father Martin or Father Biju. After qualifying you will be trained to engage in these ministries.
What is the Sanation of a Marriage?
In special circumstances, a Roman Catholic person can solicit from the bishop of the diocese, to have their invalid civil marriage “sanated”. According to the law of the Church: The radical sanation of an invalid marriage is its convalidation without the renewal of consent, which is granted by competent authority and entails the dispensation from an impediment, if there is one, and from canonical form, if it was not observed, and the retroactivity of canonical effects- Can. 1161 §1. Note that in order for a sanation to be granted the persons must be free to marry in the Church; the consent to marry given in the civil ceremony must continue and there is no danger of separation or divorce. After sanation is granted the soliciting party is able to approach the Sacraments and participate fully in the life of the Church, and the marriage is recorded in the local parish.

Let us not forget to keep in our prayer our Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
As we continue to pray daily for our Holy Father, let us also pray for our Pope Emeritus. The Vatican has published a wonderful scrapbook on the pope, please take the time to look at it. We also encourage you to read the three encyclicals written by pope emeritus during his pontificate. This reading would make for a great Lenten practice and reflection:
